I'm starting to warm up to the idea of Dampier and the new Mavericks team. If Dampier has Avery Johnson's stamp of approval then the guy's alright with me. Still I think their success will come down to whether Nelson can coach a legit center who plays in the low post. I'm not sure that he can.

I think you might be right. I also think Dampier has tremendous incentive to prove he can play for a winning team - now - can he stay healthy?
He won't make it past game 20 on the season. The other scenario is that he'll be traded again before the trade deadline.
Najara has to be retrieved somehow. What a loss.
Those 20 games will be about as many games as Najera has started the last 4 years. I like Najera but the opportunity to pick up a legit center in his prime doesn't come around very often. The fact that Dallas was able to pick up Dampier without losing a starter, makes this a great trade for Dallas.
